About Jackie
I am the Founder and CEO of Choice Academics. I graduated with a B.A. in English Literature at UC Berkeley. After working in Human Resources for over a decade, I began to homeschool my three sons and discovered an efficient, strategic pathway into the UC schools for each of them.
My oldest son graduated from UCSB as a CS major and is currently building his brand as an entrepreneur. My second son graduated high school one year early and had an accelerated transfer path to UC Berkeley in his fourth year of high school. Our third son is still in high school and getting ready for a bright future.
I started Choice Academics because I want to pass on the knowledge I have gained over the years and help parents avoid potential pitfalls of college prep that homeschoolers and transfer students uniquely face.
Answers to Common Questions
Is it better to apply as Undecided or with a major?
It has become very difficult to transfer majors from L&S to Engineering at most UCs once you’re in. Let’s see what uniquely suits your app!
Are my extra curriculur activities good enough?
UCs look for quality involvement in extra curriculurs. Let’s take a look at your activities and see how you can level them up!
I barely have any AP or A-G courses. Do I even have a chance?
Yes, you do!
UC encourages homeschoolers to apply. Let’s strengthen your app & showcase your uniqueness!
Why is transferring to the UC in one year a good alternative path?
Acceptance rates are higher for transfers and you save a year or two of tuition. You will also be better prepared for the university level work load.

Why You Need Me
School and Community College (CC) Academic Counselors are limited.
- Homeschoolers need to take CC and online UC-accredited courses to fulfill high school requirements for UC admissions. I have carefully researched what the best course of action is in order to knock out multiple requirements at once – for high school, college admissions, and potential major declaration.
- School counselors are appointment based and not easily accessible. I will be accessible and responsive to all your inquiries via email, text, zoom, and in person.
- School counselors are spread thin to serve tens, hundreds or more students. I will lift your burden of research and provide ongoing support with strategies that will help your student meet their goals. I will help alleviate the daunting work it takes to navigate the many forms, policies, and restrictions that have been placed upon students who have chosen this unique academic path.
Consultation for UC and Customized Academic Plans at an hourly rate of $75/hr
- A thorough review of your student’s goals, transcripts and activities which will determine recommended pathways for your student.
- Personalized strategies for your student to build up their resume.
- Customized academic plans of what courses to take each semester.
- Resources and connections to build up extra curriculars.
- As much assistance as needed to execute plans.
